"ELECTRIC COOL ACID, a live album documenting the early days of WHITE HEAVEN in 1987, is being re-released digitally. The original was sold in 1988 as 100 cassette tapes only, and in 1995 was released on CD by NOON DISK in a limited edition of 1,000 copies, but is now out of print. This time, in addition to the original live performance at Shimokitazawa YANEURA in December 1987, a studio rehearsal version of the title track "OUT" (over 25 minutes) was added as a bonus track (previously unreleased). In this 1989 rehearsal version, the rhythm section was replaced by Hiroshi Goi (bass) and Kaoru Onuma (drums), and the lineup was positioned at the halfway point between the previously released "LEVITATION" ('88) and the first album "OUT" ('91). The lineup is positioned between "LEVITATION" ('88) and the first album "OUT" ('91). Please note that both the main album and the bonus tracks are from our vintage cassette tape vault and low-fi recording. As a purchase bonus, you can also download original CD cover, flyer, stage photos taken on the day of the live performance. The photo was taken by Sachio Ono, who also photographed Jagatara and Kenji Endo at the time, as well as the cover photo for WHITE HEAVEN's "OUT". |

After the live performance in 1987, which was later made into a CD as "Electric Cool Acid", the original member Tetsuya Sakamoto left and White Heaven became a four-member band consisting of You Ishihara, Michio Kurihara, Soichiro Nakamura and Ken Ishihara. For one year in 1988, the band spent their time in the studio doing sessions and experiments. The album "Levitation" is a collection of material from the missing link between Electric Cool Acid and the recording of their first album "Out" in 1990. |
The album was released in the US in 1997 in a limited edition of 700 LPs, but sold out soon after and is now hard to find. |
Track 5 are previously released as bonus track for “Electric Cool Acid” CD Noon Disk ’95. |

Originally released in an LP edition of 500 in 1991 by P.S.F. Records, Japan (PSF-11) and CD in 1994 (PSFD-11)
White Heaven’s debut album Out is one of the greatest psychedelic rock albums ever recorded. First released in 1991 by Tokyo’s P.S.F. Records and pressed in an edition of 500 copies the original LP has become a holy grail in underground circles, with only a scant few copies ever making it outside of Japan. Built on the chemistry between You Ishihara’s lysergic lyricism and the blistering leads of one of Japan’s undisputed guitar gods Michio Kurihara, Out is an absolute classic. It is one of the few albums to successfully join a deep love of classic rock n’ roll with the rapturous energy of punk and openness of the avant-garde. Each song creates its own world, raising dynamic structures that defy categorization.
Meticulously re-mastered by the artists this new edition is the album in its clearest, most powerful form. Cut at the legendary Bernie Grundman studios and pressed at RTI it is now available on vinyl for the first time in almost 30 years. Black Editions presents Out in its definitive edition.
“What happens if you want to make a sound like Eric Clapton on “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” or Ritchie Blackmore on Made in Japan – two early influences Kurihara mentions in particular - but you’ve never been in a recording studio before? What happens if you want to sing like Marc Bolan or Robert Plant – or even Lou Reed and Tom Verlaine - but you’ve never been on a stage before? Listen to what happened on OUT: a wide knowledge and love of classic rock sounds fused to a freedom of expression based not only on punk, but on avant-garde experimentalism. It isn’t that these young players had chops like that at the time. But neither did they need them to hit heightened moments of what I can only describe as rock rapture.”- Damon Krukowski
